Frequently Asked Questions
What is it like to work with you?
Clients and colleagues tell me I am flexible, efficient, a good communicator, well-prepared, and a pleasure to work with. I deeply enjoy being a Graphic Recorder and Graphic Facilitator. I work with all sizes of groups from small C-suite discussions and leadership meetings to conventions with plenary sessions of over 2000 people – every engagement is unique.
I love leveraging technology. In our constantly changing online world, I stay up to speed on changes, innovations, and new ways of working. I'm willing to experiment with emerging technology and provide you with an outstanding virtual experience.
Do you specialize in any particular type of work?
Recently I have been supporting a lot of companies and organizations doing work around diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity, I particularly enjoy values-based systems work. Health care, education, food systems, affordable housing, child care, tech access and equity, and youth justice are of particular interest. It is an honor and very humbling to witness and provide visuals for life changing conversations. I routinely handle technical topics such as Fintech, IoT, AI, Future of Work, logistics, OD, emerging tech, product design. Most conversations, no matter the topic, have strong values components.
Why do live Graphic Recording and Facilitation have such an impact?
Observing the creation of the work allows for the Graphic Recording to become a valuable part of the collective experience. The final product serves to help the group share their work, make sense of the information, and refresh memories of the event. Visuals increase retention, help expand thought, help keep everyone on the same page, and support the work of the group. All of my work can be shared digitally, and also printed out at fairly large sizes.
What is the difference between Graphic Recording or Graphic Facilitation?
I'm glad you asked, there can be some confusion about this. I wrote this quick blog post with a few samples to help explain the difference. With that said, it's not a big deal if you confuse the words as you learn to navigate this space. Graphic Facilitation has changed a bit with our work-at-home situation, and there are wonderful tools available like Jamboard, Mural, and Miro. I can help you navigate creative ways to use these tools, and I often create my freehand work alongside a group using these tools.
Can we print the art on mugs, T-shirts or other swag?
Yes, I encourage you to use all or part of the Graphic Recording in any way that will maximize your event or process. I don't assign or charge for usage right to my work, unless you intend to re-sell my work.
How can I get a quote for an Illustration or Infographic?
Please call me or email angelique@drawingimpact.com so we can set up a time to discuss. Each job is unique and we will review the details so I can provide you with an accurate quote and timeline.
Do you subcontract out to other Graphic Recorders?
When you contract with Drawing Impact you are working directly with me, Angelique McAlpine, from planning through completion. If the job needs more than one visual professional, I have a network of trusted colleagues to partner with, or I can join your team. If I am not available for your dates, I will refer you to a trusted colleague.

Do you produce projects in your studio too?
Yes, I often take on studio illustration projects for time lapses, simple animation, infographics, timelines, histories, and more. I also create graphic materials clients would like prepared in advance of an event including: Agendas, Templates, Instructions, Frameworks, etc.
My production department asked for “vector files”, can you do that?
Yes, I can accommodate with Adobe based vector files created on the iPad, retaining the hand drawn character of my work.

Do you travel?
Pre-Covid I traveled with great frequency and I will travel again when conditions permit. I generally fly out of ALB and am budget conscious for my clients. Baltimore, Chicago, San Antonio, San Diego, Orlando, Tampa, Austin, New York, Boston, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Columbus, Denver, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Portland, Seattle, New Orleans etc., are all easily and affordably reached. From May through October I am based in Vermont, Boston and NYC are accessible by car or train and just a few hours away. From November through April I am based in Florida. What do you draw on when you are working onsite?
I generally draw on white paper or foamboard. I am open to working on other surfaces. Here is a quick list of things to take into consideration when planning your event space. A flat surface is required when I am working on paper, there are a variety of ways we can accomplish that and I will work closely with you to make sure there will be an appropriate surface available. Studio projects can be drawn on paper, foamboard, or the iPad. May we videotape you creating the art?
Yes, and you might consider a time lapse video as well, it is an effective way to generate interest on social media and to communicate internally. |
